Conestoga Valley School District

The Conestoga Valley School District is a smaller, high-performing school district serving the communities of East Lampeter Township, Upper Leacock Township, and West Earl Township.  It has a student population of just over 4,200 students. According to state testing scores, 54% of these students are proficient in math and 73% in reading.  It has 1 high school, 1 middle school, and 4 elementary schools. The district offers a gifted program and, at the high school level, Advanced Placement courses.

It has been named one of the “Best Communities for Music Education” several times by the National Association of Music Merchants. The school rating website, Niche.com, gives this district an “A-” rating.  The school district is run by a nine-member school board.  The Conestoga Valley School district truly captures the range of settings found in Lancaster County.

Much of this school district is suburban, but it is not just a suburban school district. Parts of the district touch on Lancaster City and these areas have a much more urban feel.  On the other hand, as the district moves toward New Holland, it becomes much more rural. So if you are looking for a home in this area, whether you like a rural, suburban, or urban home, you will find it in the Conestoga Valley School District.

All students receive a laptop to use during the school year. In addition to its academic offerings, the middle school has a variety of extracurricular activities.  The music department offers band, chorus, and orchestra. There are 13 different athletic teams. Clubs include a community service organization, a gay-straight alliance, a Christian fellowship group, Dungeons & Dragons, a Technology Student Association, and yearbook.  The school also puts on an annual spring play.

Conestoga Valley Education Foundation

The Conestoga Valley Education Foundation was formed in 1991 with the goal of encouraging creativity and educational excellence within the school district.  To do so, the Foundation raises money and provides grants to the students, teachers, and administrators to provide opportunities that would not be possible within the confines of the regular school district budget.  Some of the money specifically reserved for technology initiatives within the classroom, to enhance the curriculum and challenge how students think about the tools of tomorrow. Other grants have supported music and art initiatives,  enrichment programs in math, science, literacy, writing, and physical education, and citizenship programs, among others. Students, teachers, and administrators with an idea can write a grant proposal for submission to the Foundation.  Since the Foundation began, it has handed out more than $700,000 in grants. Two of its more prominent fundraisers include an annual Golf Classic and a Derby Day celebration. Others sources of funding include donations from individuals as well as local businesses through Pennsylvania’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit.
